We always talk to you over the phone first and answer questions you may have. Then we can take a look at your hair with video calling to make an initial assessment wether this process will work for you. After your initial consultation and suitability assessment, you then come in to the clinic and I will take some blood from your arm and extract Platelet rich Plasma (PRP) and combine this with a very specific mix of vitamins to provide a symbiotic cocktail of PRP and vitamins. The scalp is cleaned and a topical anesthetic applied if you need some. The vitamin PRP, or vPRP as I like to call it, is then carefully injected with a thin needle, into the thinning areas of the scalp. Then the growth factors in your blood cells do their job and hair growth is naturally stimulated. You are then ready to go and continue the rest of your day. See our ‘treatment protocol’ for more detailed information on the treatment.
Understanding Hair Growth and Hair Loss
Hair has a natural cycle of growing and falling out. Each hair will grow from the follicle, reach its full length and then fall out before the follicle rests before regrowing hair again. On average each person has about 50-150 hairs fall out in a day, or up to 55,000 hairs every year. This is quite normal when they are being shed at the same rate as they are being regrown. We have approximately 100,000 hairs on a full head of hair at any one time so losing up to 150 hairs per day is not so scary after all.
Hair loss occurs when hair does not regrow at the same rate of hair shedding. This can be due to a variety of causes. Male pattern baldness is the most common and is mostly due to changes in the hormone Dihydrotestosterone. Many women suffer from accelerated hair loss too. Other causes can be stress, pregnancy, various types of aloplecia, illness, medication, menopause and genetics.
